3 hours decant. No my best bottle. This bottle seemed younger and more closed than my prior bottles. The underlying qualities could be discerned but I guess I wait a year or so to see how my next one goes.

Slow ox for 5 hours. Only a few flecks of sediment. Cherry-vanilla-cream cola on nose and palate. Near velvety. 20+ second finish 15.5% alcohol very well hidden. This is not likely to improve. Enjoy over the next 3 to 5 years.

Recent purchase, first of three, from the online wine clearinghouse ($29.99@). Opened with 1 oz pour, then left for an hour. Moderate to potent nose of dry earth, spice, cedar, and semi-sweet cherries. On the palate, consistent notes with tar, tomato, rose petals, cigar box and smoke. Medium to deep red with rust notes, medium to full-bodied, thick legs. Powerful tannins and acidity, very good persistence and intensity. I bought another riserva BdM from this producer from 2012 of a different bottling and liked it, and this was $10 less @, so buying it was a no brainer (as most riservas at this price would be for me). Modern, with more than customary oak for a BdM and fruit forward, lovers of Biondi Santi may accuse this winery of pandering to American tastes with this bottling, but hey, I'm a proud American and this wine is delicious (not to mention that you can buy 3-4 bottles of this for the price of 1 bottle of the BS normale)! The elements are all strong and still somewhat separate, the wine is early in its drinking window, but it's not so powerful that it isn't food-friendly. Still some room for a bit of upside in a couple of years, and with plenty of life left under any circumstances. Crazy good qpr. 93+

A little funky at first. Toasted oak and cedar is very prevalent. Underlying cherry notes are a bit obscured by the wood.
