  • Three years since my last bottle, and I continue to sing this wine's praises despite it's not appealing to everyone. What I love are the herbal notes. The potpourri of herbs add richness, complexity, and body to dried/dehydrated fruit flavors of raspberry and cranberry. One friend was ambivalent and called this a "food wine". That's not my take. I prefer the dry herbal notes without food, because food can mask or overwhelm the wine, and I enjoy the dry herbal notes unaccompanied. Another friend was more complimentary. I think the Envinate Canary Island reds are singular and fully worthy of the Wine Advocate praise. One friend liked this at cellar temperature upon pop and pour, but I preferred it with some warmth and air, which softened enhanced a round herbal mouthfeel.

  • Tried again 3 years later…really don’t get this wine. Thin, little to no nose, little to no palate…not a 97 pnt

  • Funky volcanic reduction on the nose. Palate is well balanced but maybe a little closed at the moment? Not getting much in the way of fireworks. Don't really get the 98 WA score.

  • Medium to dark salmon
Aromatics medium +. Fresh strawberry with some barnyard. Background rock. No new oak
Palate has a medium body. Acid medium +. Tannins medium, fine grained. Alcohol medium -. Fresh but not overly ripe raspberry and strawberry. Intense minerality.
Finish has a medium length. Balanced
Overall light, acidic, fresh and rocky
Drinks well now, apparently has a long drinking window though. Wish it had been less expensive though.

  • "Volcanic wine" with overwhelming minerality and salt. Lots of funk on the nose, will need violent decanting. Good strawberry and fresh fruit behind, well-defined with power. 92
