  • The nose is upfront, but still very balanced with sour red cherries, dark red berries, pine needles, herbs, raspberries, licorice, fruitcake, and rose petals. The full bodied feel is plush and balanced with crisp, medium acidity and silky, medium tannins. There is some alcohol warmth to the feel and finish. This feels like it really could use a few more years to shed the baby fat. It will always have a larger scale to it, but there is a lot to like right now and there is more to come.

  • Black fruit and a little leather on the nose. On the palate, the acidity dominates a little too much for me followed by the tannins and a little heat. The fruit is a little lost. I’m hoping everything may come into balance with a little more age. Has potential but time will tell?!

  • A most un-Burgundy Burgundy, if this had been a blind tasting I would have guessed Rhone. Its probably the high alcohol content - 14.5%; chewy and spicy blue fruits, tasted like a good and true S. Rhone. Maybe this is typical of the Fixin appellation? This wine tastes like it came from a vineyard where they've been doing something right for a long time. Quite a bit more serious than its price suggests, this is a good wine to share with friends. I think this is the entry level for this producer, there are a number of 1er Crus listed here. I would like to climb the ladder a bit.

  • Floral nose. Raspberry and cherry fruit, very bright with good acid and tannic structure. Not a dense wine by any means. Mushrooms rather than any soil or funk. Baking spices and a savory characteristic I sometimes compare to bacon fat. Definitely highish alcohol which does leave some heat on the finish. Moderate length of finish.

Day 2: Some funk on the nose and strawberry becoming a more prominent fruit.

Bottom line: A relatively simple wine with a few interesting characteristics. Good for every day drinking and decent QPR if you can get it at $50ish.
