Very big pinot, which oddly is part of the In Pursuit of Balance crew. This was very deeply colored and a little cloudy and on the eyeball test, it seemed much closer to an aged GSM. The nose was pretty reluctant and there is a chance that this may have been slightly corked, but still very drinkable. The palate overcompensates for the nose, with sour cherries, cranberries, a little raspberry on top of herbs, cloves, forest floor and a general spiciness that I expect from the region. There's also a strong orange / citrus note that made it like feel a bulked up Rivers-Marie. From time to time, there was a eucalyptus note that gave it a medicinal quality, which wasn't that welcome. This seemed very young for a 9 year old California Pinot. I've preferred more recent vintages.

Decanted 2 hours (saw a-p's note, but felt this was aromatically closed on opening - more expressive with air). Features fresh red fruits on nose with some spice and forest floor. On palate there is big fruit that has just enough balancing acid and light tannin to feel silky rather than thick. Very pretty fruit with nice length. Agree that as this softens with extended air, the texture starts to drift from silky to muddy. Paired well with coq a vin.

BIG, but has enough balance to pull it off without being cloying. Typical CA pinot profile, red cherry, bright fruit and full bodied mouth feel. One thing I noticed though is that the wine was best at opening, it became a bit disjointed at the end.

Big cotton candy Pinot Noir. This is right in the new world CA wheel house for Pinot Noir with a sweet, almost syurpy characteristic. A huge bottle for a huge wine. For those that like the sweeter side of Pinot Noir, this one will shine.
