Second of two bottles, the first one was opened in 2010. Same score, but different wine. This was lighter, sweeter, but somehow more balanced. 16.4%, but didn’t show any heat. Not sure how long it will age, but it seems like a good after dinner wine at this point.

Decanted one hour before service. In the glass and on the nose, much the same as it was back in 2012 - dark, purple-tinted red, and a blast of raspberries and strawberries on the nose. Less of an alcoholic note on the aromatics, but initially, that wasn't true on the palate, and I thought we might be in trouble. However, 30 minutes of air was enough for the alcoholic note to recede into the distant background, leaving us with a wine that really hasn't budged much over the intervening decade. Grenache liqueur, silky palate, mid-palate complexity, and while there are still some structured tannins on the long finish, they aren't assertive. Probably a good time to check in if you haven't already done so.

First tasted with artisanal sausage with cardamom, orange, etc and held its own, then was more than equal to an assortment of industrial halloween candy. Fun to drink and plennnnnnnty of life left in it.
