With Nerello Mascalese, it is for some reason hard to steer clear of comparisons with Pinot Noir and Nebbiolo. That might not be entirely fair. But here I go: this is like a PN in character, texture and structure. but the nose is more nebbiolo with cherries, roses and cough syrup. On the palate more southern Italian and in particular the tomato leaf I am finding is particular to Nerello. Also cherries, roses, salt and warm herbs - overall the palate is something of its own. The 2018 vintage was cool and wet on Etna, and this is an elegant rendition that I honestly appreciated more in an intellectual way. Other bottles from TdTN have elicited more emotions from me.

This wine was full of personality and character, but flawed slightly by excessive volatile acidity. One of the more pronounced examples of acetone that I have come across. Still, it shows lovely, floral notes, bright red cherry fruit and course, grainy tannins. Best to decant.

Nose of stewed plum, mint, and white pepper. Crunchy palate with plum and tart cherry layers and a load of acid, roses and a light earthiness that powers into the finish. Finish adds cranberry, lemon zest, stones, and copper with a long racy edge on the lingering finish.

Pinot Noir on nose and Nebbiolo on palate. Good minerality! Recommend to drink with Ragu.
