  • I enjoyed this wine. The next day, was not as good.

  • Should one open a Saint Estephe that's 4 years of age?
    Clearly not.
Should it show a tiny bit of quality if one does so nevertheless?
    I do think so.

Sadly, this doesn't. At this stage, this is heartless, empty, generic stuff which I believe no-one could tell apart from the mass market Bordeaux AOC-s in the supermarkets, costing 10-12 EUR.

A bit of liquorice, a general softness, very little structure, very little acidity.

Outraged that I paid more than 23 EUR for this. Epic fail.

    Update:
This became weaker and weaker every day and on day 4 it was completely trivial, so I prepared mentally for spilling it on day 5.

All the higher the surprise, when on day 5 this was complete different wine: a nice, well-balanced but intensive Bordeaux, easily 88p.

Is this the form it will be in in say 4-5 years? Anyway, that form was almost worth the 23 EUR I paid for it.

  • 3+ hr slow ox...secret method for good high level bdx tasting 😉...pulled corked, pour half glass (dont drink it), put bottle on counter, leave the house for a few hrs.....

now ive come to taste after the 3+ hr slow ox...really tasty sweet cocoa note, iodione, game, tar, sweet dark raspberry coulis, really fluid across palate ...

reminds me of barolo its got so much lift clarity, the cream sweet cream note, its open ,weightless, and is seamless...I must say that is showing quite well and imagine it grows even sweeter still some zing/zest on tannins even after 3hrs, it may be "second wine" but its truly a wine in its own...

  • Plum, cooked blackberry, graphite, new oak, floral notes. Quite approachable and pleasant now, but the tannin suggest 5+ years of cellar aging.

  • Had seepage upon arrival but didn’t notice until opening box several months later. Didn’t seem to matter much and may have actually rendered the bottle ready to drink. I think this will mellow with time, but rather good upon arrival. Excited to try again in the future!
