  • I opened my last bottle of this on Friday when Otis and Scott McDonald came over after we golfed. I have never seen any reviews of the wines for this producer; but, in my opinion, I rank this estate among the very best in the Beaujolais region. Jean Marc Burgaud's winery is located in the village of Morgon in the Southern end of the Grand Cru region of Beaujolais. This is a 4th generation family run estate which owns 17.5 acres in various Beaujolais Crus. This young winemaker practices excellent vineyard management and employs most of the same practices used by the "Gang of Four" producers in Beaujolais. This wine is made from what is probably his best site in Morgon. It is made from 45-65 year old vines. I last tried this wine about a year ago. I gave it a score in the 90-91 point range at the time. It is quite expressive. Medium bodied and if it is possible to say this about a Beaujolais, ageworthy. The oak aging and long maceration of whole grape clusters provide enough body and tannin for this wine to improve with age. I thought it was drinking better now than last year. It will never be a big, serious, full bodied wine. However, it has become much more burgundian with 2+ years in bottle. Smooth red fruit and stoney notes. Supple tannins. Drinking well. 91 points.
