Sealed with a cork: don't see many New Zealand wines under cork these days. 77 merlot, 11 cab sauv, 6 malbec, 6 cab franc Deep, dark ruby with neither youth nor maturity showing. Deep, ripe nose, with some stink initially. Quite a pinot-like nose initially, with sous bois and mushrooms alongside ripe blackberry fruit and, blood and chocolate. Very impressive attack. Mouthfilling yet elegant black fruit. Quite open, but with a sturdy tannic structure that feels like it's starting to integrate. Some leafiness and tobacco - like I'd imagine tobacco leaves might taste. Excellent finish, feeling quite Bordeaux-like. Unusually this is almost more impressive after than in the mouth, as it leaves a mouth coated with complex flavours and a finish that definitely goes on much longer than it has taken to write this tasting note. Massive length. Impressive. Wish I'd bought more than one bottle of this. Drinking very well now (slipping down rather too easily, actually), but probably 5-10 years left in it. Conceals its 14% abv well.
Curiously there is a Wine Society sticky 'imported by' label placed over the allergy information on the back label. I guess, at least at the time this was imported, ingredient/allergy listing was not permitted in the UK/EU.

Pretty decent merlot for the money. If one likes merlot.

Drank very well. Reminded me of a mid range Bordeaux. Nice structure, body and nose.

Herby, fruity nose. Smooth on the palate, medium acidity, soft tannins. Flavour of mint, red fruits.

Aromas of plum and tar. Palate similar, but also with something herbal, chewy tannins, medium acidity. Good,
