The nose on this is like the best La Frenz grand total or Poplar Grove Legacy that I've ever had. It's right up my alley. Black stuff, spicy stuff, smokable stuff. Nice full mouthfeel with spice and cherry. If this were a BC wine I'd be walking around town with a sandwich board on promoting it loudly. $32 all-in. Happy fella right here!
PnP sampled then recorked for 24hrs at (Cape Town) room temperature. Very far from ideal tasting conditions, but this wine still wow’d. The very definition of ‘judiciously oaked’, excellent depth of flavour in a modern, user friendly style. Long, tasty & no alcoholic heat on the finish. R210 down here in CPT, great value. I’ll be taking some home.

Root Day - Dark garnet core to a medium burgundy edge. Nose of oak, plum, black olive, dried red flowers, and (with swirling) some red fruit and red liquorice. On the palate it’s red and black fruit (very fresh), loads of oak and vanilla (very modern), mulling spices, and then some green herbs and some stem bitterness. Very young at this stage and yet showing some ability to develop. The acid is med and the tannins are ripe. I wonder a bit about the bitterness and green character as well as some alcohol heat. Just came into the market so I’ll wait 6 months and try it again.

Enjoyable wine. Compared with warwick pitch black, cape ladies and high road classique. I felt the others were more rounded and tasty then this wine
