Community Tasting Notes (4) Avg Score: 89 points

  • A bit reductive in the beginning. Opened up later with fresh apples, barrels, good acidity. Drank without food. Maybe a bit powerful, but I really enjoyed it.

  • Day 1 - Color: slightly green-ish light yellow. Nose : lemon, chalk, and dried parsley. Mouth : bone dry, sharp brisk acidity that fades gradually drawing linear downward curve, leaving some bitterness like chewing grape seeds. Some hint of wax and salt at the finish. Refreshing/clean/mineral but just a bit hollow or underripe. 88.

Day 2-3 - improving, gained suppleness of crunchy Brazilian nuts. Aftertaste bitterness is pleasantly in sync with some tannin astringency (almost orange wine-like, I was not expecting this from the pale color, interesting). Fino-sherry like pungent finish. Went nicely with sushi. 89.

Day 4-5 - gained subtle white flower, vanilla, and flint, almost cool-climate chardonnay-like.
Overall, the wine is austere/awkward and chameleon-like at this moment, needs a lot more aging. Good potential considering the price around $20. 88-89 for now.

Per producer website, “ The grapes used for the Redoma Branco originate from old vines growing on the right bank of the Douro River, at an altitude of between 400 and 600 metres. Here, the predominant grape varieties are Rabigato, Códega do Larinho, Viosinho, Donzelinho and Gouveio. The mica schist soils in which these vines thrive lend the resulting wines plenty of minerality, elegance and vibrant freshness.”

  • A blend of Rabigato, Códega, Viosinho, Donzelinho, Dorinto and other varietals, from very old vines. Spontaneous fermentation and subsequent aging in French oak barrels for six months. 12% ABV.

Light Lennon colour. Flinty, slightly reductive nose. Pear, lime, grapefruit, and salty and stony minerality that speaks of the shist soil, with fresh, lively acidity and good length. The oak is discrete and should integrate further with time. Light- to medium-bodied, very mineral, and very vibrant and fresh. Very enjoyable. Good value.

  • Another excellent wine from 🇵🇹. Very fine notes of pear lime citrus oak jasmine with a mildly sweet twist. Body was soft, balanced, with moderate acidity and good volume despite the low but refreshing abv. At times funkier twists reminded me of the Greek vidiano but maybe with less barique and mineral characteristics. Pleasant finish probably the weakest part. Really easy going wine for all circumstances.
