Maybe it was the name of the wine, but I found violets on the nose at first, along with blackberry; the violet scent faded over some hours. On the palate, blackberry, currant, and notes of bitter tobacco and cocoa on the medium to long finish, with fairly strong tannins and strong acidity. This was better the second day, and it clearly has room to improve. It was a good value at about $50.

A lovely wine that’s well-described in the note below. Felt it could use a little more focus, but the length was excellent and the mouthfeel was quite pretty. Would be curious to see what a few years in the cellar would do.

Nose: Damp earth, autumn leaves, dark cherry cola, very nice. Palate: Tart prickly blackberries; tar and farmyard; powdery tannins that are faintly rough but add nice mouthfeel; there's the faintest sensation of carbonation. Overall, a thick and funky Loire cab franc, which is a style I absolutely love, and reminds me of Jacky Blot's red wines.

I really wanted to love it, but just liked it. Maybe too young still? I think it is a really solid buy in the mid-$30s but didn't exceed expectations.

Light in body, smokiness in taste, love the cab franc, did not degrade over time
