Visiting Vancouver and the Willamette Valley; 8/26/2021-8/30/2021 (Vancouver, WA and the Willamette Valley, OR): Barnard Griffin's 2019 Reserve Chardonnay was 100% barrel fermented and aged for an unspecified period of time in French oak (25% new). During the process it was allowed to undergo partial malolactic fermentation. Light golden in color, it offers aromas and flavors of tropical fruit, orange creamsicle and vanilla. Medium-bodied, fresh and without any heat from its 13.2% alcohol, it has a healthy dollop of creamy oak that builds on the mid-palate and dominates the medium-length finish. While there are many who will enjoy this style, for my palate it is a bit heavy with the wood. Drink now-2024.
