Full bodied Zin. Not as jammy as in some years. More cab like but retains the sweet fruit profile it is known for and which my wife enjoys. Very tasty wine and goes well with some nice cheeses.

Decanted for 1.5 hours, however, sipped while preparing dinner. Jammy fruit ( thinking boysenberry pie from Mrs. Knott’s), a little barrel, but not “woody.” Smooth tannins and soft finish. Definitely a food wine, and it complemented our meal of rib-eye steaks, salad of mixed greens and dried dark cherries in a balsamic dressing. To top it off, finished with dark chocolate. For a Zin, this is well made, and extremely delightful. This ranks among the top for Zinfandels in my opinion. Indeed, I’m a fan of the varietal, and it is under rated, but this is a great and memorable bottle of wine. Looking to buy more for the cellar.

Asperg Wine Syndrome Tasting Group: Fall edition (@home): Glass: Zalto Bordeaux Popped and poured, tasted blind on day one, drunk over two days. Clear, medium-deep ruby color. Clean, medium intense, developing nose. Lots of dominant vanilla, speck, fine sweet red fruit, spices. Round and warm. On the palate? Well, the best you can say is: They managed the 15,9% abv really well! I was truly surprised that it never felt hot. Other than that: It is a typical “poser wine” and certainly a crowd pleaser. Lots of simple, sweet fruit, lots of vanilla (American oak), creamy and round, very uncomplicated. Or you can say: a simple, rather one-dimensional wine made for people that want to get drunk fast, but won’t use Vodka or Tequila and are willing to pay a premium price for that. Zin gets way better than this, even in California. 87-88

Dependable, tasty wine. Not as good as other vintages - more one dimensional than other vintages. Anniversary dinner.
