I can understand all the positive notes but for my personal taste this is too large scale and fruit-dominated. I wouldn’t turn down a glass, though, and it does get better with air.

Very good wine, but I’m going to compare it to the previous and next vintages. Two years ago, I thought this needed bottle age to get over its disjointed profile—big Tensley fruit juice followed by wild, astringent tannins that I don’t find in the 2018 or 2020. After drinking a case and a half so far since January 2021, I’m finally willing to concede that this vintage just isn’t quite as good. Still almost unbeatable for $20, the fruit has more of a hot, baked quality than the pure and balanced 2018, and it’s meaty, briny, and sappy whereas 2020 is expressive and floral. Last thing I’ll add to this already long-winded note, the finish is slightly clipped compared to either of the surrounding vintages.

Is this even wine? Sweet, soft, warm, and overwhelmed by alcohol and oak. I didn’t finish the glass and I’ll use the rest of the bottle for Cooking, maybe.

Delicious. Needs a good 20-30 minutes of air to shed some heat and bring out that nice, creamy fruit. Great with our grilled meats.
