Return to Napa; 3/6/2022-3/13/2022 (Wineries and various restaurants): Funny because I don't really think of merlot for rose but this actually does work. It's lots of red fruits. A bit lighter in style than the Smith Madrone we had earlier in the day but still more in that darker and deeper. I think somehow there's some acid or something that keeps it a bit lighter on its feet. Drinks well.

Birthday at Blankiet: The Prince of Hearts Rosé is, unsurprisingly, more Provençal than American in style. It opens with strawberry and melon and finishes with bright citrus. In between, it is light and crisp without ever stepping over the line of too-tart. The 2019 is a bit young for my taste: I'd say give it 2-3 years and enjoy over the subsequent 3-5.
