  • Not sure I am with those ranking this higher - could be bottle variation. Slightly harsh on entry, lots of good tart strawberry (weird,huh?) flavor with one of the longest, most involved finishes I’ve ever had. Drank alongside a Ramey pinot noir so this really excelled by comparison. But California pinot is not competition for Oregon. So this was OK - but not much more than that. Surprising, as I am quite the fan of Goodfellow pinot. And chardonnay for that matter.

  • Beautiful nose of wild strawberries, pomegranate, rose petals and minerals. Elegant and perfumed and precise. The palate begins with red fruits and red florals. There is a nice depth and the fruit is sweet and fresh. I've been drinking the Goodfellow 19's lately and I find that this has a bit more of what I look for than the current vintage. It's very lithe But as we go towards the finish this shows a bit of heat - although I need to tasted it again tomorrow to confirm. Still, this is very beautiful and pleasing - with tart red fruits in the finish. Nose - 5.5/6, Palate - 5/6, Palate - 5/6, Je ne Sais Quoi -1/2 = 16.5/20.

    Day 3: Just a tiny bit left - more resolved with beautiful wild strawberry, red florals, touch of cinnamon, and herbal/stems. Classic and poised and lovely.

    -- all tastings were done blind; tasting included 2018 Beloved Acre, 2018 Long Acre, and 2018 Lewman --
    -- this was wine #3 of the tasting --

    NOSE: Day 1: reserved; red-fruited; smells a touch sweet compared to #1 and #2; red currants; deeper-pitched than #1; deep; reserved; smells very nice, and I imagine will be wonderful in future; similar to #2, but a bit more reserved; light oak. Day 2: red-fruited; hints of cumin and roasted celery. Day 3: very tight.

    BODY: pale rose-red color of light depth; exact same color as the other two in the tasting; medium-light bodied.

    TASTE: Day 1: bitter/green/weedy; high acidity; fine tannins; seems to be red-fruited, but it's pretty difficult to access the fruit flavors right off the bat; despite being tight, it has a long, but light, finish; neck and neck with #1 as most tannic of the three; similar to #1, but less expressive, and strays less from red fruits part of the spectrum (no orange peel note here); hint of cola at 3.5 hrs. mark. Day 2: high acidity; juicy finish; red-fruited; more open than #1 and #2 today. Day 3: reserved; probably shut-down now; maybe a tiny hint of oxidation? 13.4% alc..

  • Limpid ruby. Pungent nose of dark cherries, sous bois, wet stones, and baking spices. On the palate there is delicate yet expressive dried cherry, cranberry, and spicecake notes, lifted by refreshing acidity and polished silky tannins.

    Of the single block Whistling Ridge vineyard wines from Marcus that I’ve had so far this is perhaps the most dark and “dank”, and I say that in the nicest way. There is less of the floral elegance I see in the other single block wines Marcus makes from this site.
