Although gamay was not my thing to date, I decided to take half a case of this and try it. I am impressed. Comes across as a cross between something Spanish and burgundy with good acidity, nice sweetness and lovely nose. I think I will try and get another half case. Might get better in 2-3 years.

Made from a tiny vineyard of 0.92ha with an average of 70 year old vines. Wine is aged for 12 months in oak, 10% new. Medium garnet, ruby hue. Just after uncorking aroma is overwhelmed by leather, cured meat and farmyard notes, with time it balances out with smoky cherries & strawberries, wet earth, spices, smoke. Medium body, medium- density, fresh and rustic with balanced dynamic and lively structure, bright high acidity, medium velvety tannins. Still growing give it another 2-3 years for it to fully blossom.

Magnificent! That said, this vintage is much less like Burgundy or Gamay than any of the few other Labruyeres I've had - it reminded me of a good vintage of Ch Musar w/o any funk. High-toned nose w a landscape of complexity, very structured, smooth rich palate with just perfect tannin and acidity. I wish I had more!!

13% alcohol. Extremely long cork, the like of which I remember seeing on top Médoc classified growths. Deep colour with substantial thinning at the edge of the rim. Rich nose with some undergrowth and perceptible oak (a bit of a Laurent nose in fact, so, Burgundian in a manner of speaking); classy but trading freshness for sophistication. The mouth is in the same style, save for a very substantial level of acidity which brings some balance to the finish. All in all, a good bit overstated and over processed. Certainly not for Beaujolais purists, and I have yet to be fully convinced by oaked Gamay. Enjoyable nevertheless in a guilty kind of a way.

I havent been surprised in a while, and this wine surprised me quite a lot. Just had the 2011 last week and it was ok, but this is quite a revelation pf what a gamay grape can achieve. Aerated and decanted, and poured within 15 mins, it opened up with an elegant bouquet of sweet cassis, rose petals and blackberry with a hint of smoke and leather in the background. Complex flavors with nice long finish. Tannins are surprisingly soft and mellow and well integrated, such a contrast with the rustic and chewy tannins of the 2011. Beautiful
