  • An estate that we visited back in 2013. 70% Pinot Meunier, 15% each of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay from vines averaging 40 years old. Disgorged Oct. 2020. 5g/l dosage. The base wine is from 2014 but this is a solera going back to 1998. This was a fuller bodied champagne with a leesy nose. Moderate+ bead. Light yellow color. Well rounded with apple, chalk and honey notes. Playful finish. I have one more bottle which I will hold for a few years. 92-93 points.

  • Impromptu Dinner w/Friends (Pa Lian Burmese, Wheaton): Courtesy of Vino Me. A blend of 70% meunier and 15% each noir and chardonnay based on 2014, disgorged October 2020 at 5g/L. Deep straw yellow color with a medium mousse and a fine, lingering bead. Aromas of poached pear, honey-roasted nuts and even a little caramel underneath. More creamy than bright, with flavors of apple, vanilla creme, brioche and almond. Hints of dried peach in the finish. Already nice complexity here despite its relative youth. Absolutely delightful.

  • Spiced caramelised apples, sweet grapefruit, sour lemon sherbet, toasted brioche. Fresh but with some generosity. Ripe fruit counterbalances the minimal dosage (5g/l) in this Meunier-dominated blend (80:10:10) based on the 2015 vintage. 72 months sur lie, disgorged in 2022.

  • Clos Joliette Study Part I (Chicago, IL): Disgorged January 2022, 5 g/L dosage. 70% Harvest 2015. I don't know how much of my enjoyment of this was due to having such a refreshing wine after a lineup of petit manseng, but I do like the lean, mineral cut here without the wine feeling empty or hollow. And despite the high meunier content, this doesn't come off as funky or mushroomy either.

  • Toasted brioche, orange peel, ripe yellow apples, ripe pears, limestone, walnuts and marzipan/almond cake on the nose. Great medium + intensity of aromas. Driven by yeast and the limestone. The palate adds lemon peel and wet stone, and some fresh chopped bitter greens. Overall yeasty, bitter and mineral driven in a great way. Medium + intensity of flavors too.

Dry with an expansive medium + body, medium + acid, really nice long finish that's also bitter. Everything from the flavor to the structure is really nice on this.
