  • I was pleasantly surprised with this bottling. I expected a big, sappy, fruit bomb but there was a semblance of balance and restraint here. Cherries, tomato leaf, spices, and pencil shavings grace the nose. It's warm, earthy, a touch rustic, with briars and brambles atop a bowl of red fruit. Develops attractive notes of toast and fruit punch. Tasty finish.

  • The takeaway from this wine is why do you need a bottle so big that prevents someone from using a wine fridge to store it? Seriously, it's ok, but nothing special. Probably needs more air or time to soften a bit.
Notes of cherry and some spice.

  • Retail $50. DIAM 5 closure. Really, really Big Ass Bottle. Recently, I sampled the standard Cherry Pie Pinot (a part of Vintage Wine Estates) and it was solid. Nothing spectacular, but, well, solid. This wine (despite the *ridiculous* bottle)? Another level. Yeah, I tore a rotator cuff trying to pour the damned thing, but the wine? Stellar. Light in color, but serious in flavor, this wine is lithe in the glass with subtle cherry (I know, right?) and bits of earth and spice. The palate is, well, delicious with a creative balance of fruit (cherry, duh), acidity, and spice. Like I mentioned, I did not anticipate liking this wine (and the weight of the bottle is stupid), but I do. Fantastic.
