Clear, pale or med (-) garnet, with thick legs. Med intensity aromas of tart black cherry, dried red cherries, dried medicinal herbs, tobacco, tar, earth, with some neutral oak spice. Still developing. Dry, with med (+) acidity, med (+) polished tannins, and high alcohol (14%). The palate is consistent with the nose, with black licorice. Full body, with med to med (+) flavor intensity and length. Good to very good quality, with potential for improvement with further aging. Ridiculously good QPR from Trader Joe's.

Mystery bottle 2 of 2, tasted blind. Guessed a pre-2015 old world wine, ended up going with a Bordeaux blend with reservations. Italian did not cross the mind - do not usually buy Italian, which was the point I suppose. This is drinking well now.
Day 1: with fajitas. Medium red with brown edges. Very dry with some astringency. It still has some nice, lively, red fruit.
Day 2: with Canyon Bistro. Red currant, guava, and tropical fruits balanced by wood and well structured tannins
Day 3: with Canyon Bistro leftovers. No additional notes taken.
