  I was a little reticent about opening this bottle because it is a 2018 Bordeaux. Upon closer inspection I saw that it was a 100% Merlot. That prompted me to open it and I did. Everything upon open was very positive. The nose is youthful vital alive. it wasn’t at all closed or shut down which is what I expected. I expected a 2018 in the bottle to be a tight restrictive reveal. But Merlot being a great grape from Bordeaux, one that tends to reveal younger did exactly that. The nose to me is vibrant informed by black cherry cranberry and some green I don’t know if there’s any cab Franc even hidden in there. After all this is 100% Merlot. But I sense a teasing of Cabernet Franc. Is there any in there? Probably not but there’s a tease of the green thing. I tasted it. The specifics weren’t revealing yet. Probably over time. But right now a very round, opulent, kind of voluptuous feeling on the tongue. Initially on the front palate there was some sour, off oddities but that seemed to burn out over 5 minutes and I can’t really describe those oddities but they were odd. The more I drink the more it’s settled into itself. Proving to be a classic Bordeaux merlot. I have to say I’m totally impressed - it’s a relatively young wine that is drinking really beautiful right now. There maybe 4 to 5 to 6 years floating around here, but you wouldn’t be doing yourself a disservice by opening it now. Simply lovely. Oh with broccoli rapini sausage on orecchiette, olive oil and pecorino Romano. Just right.
