  • A little more structure than I was expecting but there is a certain elegance to this wine. More natural than Rougeard but not excessively flawed. Curious to see what happens to this with 5-10 more years of age.

  • What a fantastic bottle of Chinon. On opening it was somewhat angular, light-medium bodied and definitely acid driven, but eminently enjoyable - firm, well formed structure, pure fruit and lots of interest - nothing that I’d describe as ‘funk’ or Brett. After a couple of hours in the decanter and warming from cellar temp it began to fill out and really charm. The tannins are fine grained and grippy, the acidity high but not shrill, the fruit flavours clean and well delineated covering a range from red to dark berry, with just a hint of green with a lovely bramble and autumnal forest feel along with a pronounced but well integrated graphite / led pencil savouriness …and a hint of earth and wilted violets. Still a young wine, which is drinking well - especially with food - but evidently has more to come. A little left the next day was continuing to sing. A certain, honest, reserve that was just the right side of feeling ‘strict’. A really well made, old school, Chinon… It doesn’t have the silky, Burgundian mouthfeel as Corbineau’s Chinon of the same year, nor provide the depth & power of Alliet’s Cote de Noyer 2010, but I reckon it their equal, after it’s own fashion. A beautiful example of a great French ‘country’ wine ! 94+
