Penultimate bottle and a banker. These may turn out to be lovelier one day, but there's no harm in having enjoyment right now. The nose has a whiff of spice and lively red fruits. Palate - long, some sour cherry, some structure there. K scorns "burgundy" but this is just inside the lines for her - it's not over the top, but it doesn't require you to be an ascetic or a nerd either. Just what you want on a Thursday.

Bright floral on the nose, light bodied Pinot Noir, accented by raspberry and plum, with a hint of cassis and nutmeg, touch of vanilla and so, so smooth finish. I drank it with a plate of duck in orange/apricot sauce at a restaurant, and it was perfect.

Friday Night Movie Night; 1/13/2023-1/15/2023: On the nose - more obvious oak than in the past. Something to do with the glass perhaps? The fruit is there behind it though - red fruits and a hint of cherry stone. On the palate - lovely acidity, a bit of structure to carry it, maybe a hint of spice from the oak but all is in balance. Just the thing for the last of the Christmas cheddar and Escape from New York.

On the nose - restrained, a whiff of parma violets. Palate - some sourness but also a bit of generosity. This is savoury and definitely burgundy but all too easy to drink. Paired with cheese and ham sandwich, poshed up with Walkers ready salted.

If Savigny-lès-Beaune are this good, why are we freaking out about Vosne and Chambolle price increases anymore? Average vine age of 66 years with the depth and complexity to show for it. I am a relatively recent savigny convert and wines like these are exactly why. It's savory and meaty and sauvage but not at all harsh or bitter or weedy. 2019 was a rising tides lift all boats scenario but this would be a winner regardless. I only bought two and wish I had many more.
