Community Tasting Notes (2) Avg Score: 89 points

  • This pristinely cellared bottle was a "lost soldier" in a dear friend's cellar. Expecting it to be devoid of fruit 18 years after the vintage, we were sorely mistaken. Deep golden, full-bodied and with good acidity, it retains plenty of tropical and stone fruit aromas and flavors, accented with honey and vanilla. This bottle exhibits no signs of oxidation, has a fair amount of oak and shows no heat from its 13.8% alcohol. The middle palate is solid and it closes with good length. I know that this is hard to believe, but the reason why this particular bottle does not receive an "outstanding" score is solely because of the wine's oak, which was a trait from its birth. Those holding well-cellared bottles will be bewitched, bothered and bewildered. Drink now.
