Tasting: I have not had a high end Mosel for quite some time and this was a great reminder of the qulity produced in this beautiful valley. Very young, with only some early signs of maturity.

They don't make 'em like they used to (New York City, NY): #12-96. The botrytis is just so powerful on this bottling, especially in contrast to the 1996 which has basically none. This is intensely sweet, with lots of pineapple and grapefruit, and a rich creamy texture. There's a lovely freshness to this despite all of those rich elements. On the other hand, I much preferred the sprightly zip of the 1996 more.

Excessibe Rhone and Riesling night (St. Marks Place Grand Sich, NY): I didn't enjoy this as much during the dinner - perhaps the start of palate fatigue, or just the challenge of having this next to the much higher acid '96 - but leftovers the next night are so much better, showing a lot more focus and cut than it had when freshly opened. The fruit's still very fresh and lively - lots of apple, citrus, and some of those classic Würzgarten red fruited notes - with accents of creamy, honeyed, and botrytis spice elements. Plenty of sweetness, but it's nicely balanced by the acidity and drinking very well with some air.

Thanksgiving dinner w the family (Equinox Restaurant, Washington, DC.): Thanksgiving with the Family @ Equinox (Washington, DC). Nose: Amazing nose of petrol, spice, pears. Very creamy. Great acid and verve almost electric. Brown spices. Classic Wurzgarten nose. Palate: Very creamy & spicy. Great mouthfeel. Somewhat softened. Plush. Perfect combo of sweet & acid - hits the salivary glands just right. Great finish with good acid and sweetness. Everything I want in a Riesling. One of my favorite wines in many vintages. Nose: 6/6, Palate: 5/6, Finish: 5/6, Je ne sais quoi (wild card): 2/2 = 18/20 = 96/100
