  • The wine is a little thin, but very drinkable, especially for the price.

  • Sort of like a Pinot with shoulders. Well balanced and tasty but not ultra complex. Very happy with it for the money.

Updated with Cam's notes so I can find them: Medium purple in the glass. Powdered lavender and rose petal spring from the glass, underpinned with warm brown sugar notes from the extended barrel time. Wild berry bramble, walnut husk, and graham cracker round out the glorious bouquet. Beautifully balanced on entry with a soft, medium-body delivering raspberry, anise and sage spice against a firm yet well-integrated structure. Juicy and chewy across the mid-palate with a long, pristine finish. The purity of fruit here is truly compelling. 98% Carignan, 2% Merlot, 100% Mendocino County Sourced from Piffero and Bartholomei vineyards 80-90-year-old, head-trained vines 14% alc.

  • This one cracks 90 just barely. I will say that I am actually quite impressed by the quality of this wine. Not really knowing the producer, it is imperative that the wine at least resembles the variety and appellation that it says on the label. I would say it accomplishes both of those tasks. Is it a wine that I will write an entire column about? No. Is it worth the mystery Case price that I paid for it and 11 of its closest friends? Absolutely. Poured a medium velvety purple color to the glass. I will tell you that, this was poured in temperature control and you could feel the air swirling all around. Lavender and purple fruit lept out of the glass. The nose and palate has light to medium acid, medium body, blue and brambleberry purple fruit. A little bit of charred tannin on the finish. As the bottle set open, definitely developed a more herbal type quality. A little bit of mint and savory baking spices mostly noted to the sides of the tongue. Not so sure I would knowingly buy any one particular wine, however this mystery Case thing really does make me scratch my head and I will therefore probably buy another case once the 12th bottle of this mystery Case has been exhausted.
