From memory. Stood up in wine fridge for > 1 mo. Decanted for > 1. Aromas of leather, cedar, herbs and black fruits. Palate follows mostly with addition of plums. Elegant mouthfeel. Tannins mostly resolved. Nice finish. Beautiful wine. Reminds me of older cabs and cab blends.

Brilliant, deeply hued, nearly fully bricked mahogany red, with a slight amber tint, and barely salmon at the rim. Closed at first, then showing a varnishy, Cognac-like,very ripe fruit (prune, plum) nose mixed with a red fruit melange. Strong attack of dry, (almost over-) mature, brambly red fruit, earth and spice. On warming, this becomes smooth, soft, granular textured, very ripe, almost sweet but dry, bitter and stylish at the same time (glycerin, ripe fruit sweetness, not sugar sweetness). Very good length. This is a BIG, soft, especially ripe wine for a 20+ year old Zin. I love these older Drapers - they command respect and focused attention. Wonderful subtleties for such a big, ripe wine. Some would find this strange, and it is, but I find it intellectually stimulating, alive, and profound. Bravo, Paul! Nowhere to go but down, though these seem to hang on indefinitely. 94 quality, 97 personal preference.

1/99. Slight, hard sediment. Still OK. Chocolate, opening up to port-like richness.
