This is still a tannic wine, even after 8hr or so of decanting. The nose was really pleasant upon first opening Spice, leather, earthy and some black cherry. Wine was medium bodied with very nice acidity. Started to round out by the end of the evening although the nose was much more muted by that point.

Reinforcing that Barolo is a fantastic food wine, this Damilano Cannubi is less impressive on its own, but paired with some pasta, spicy sausage, and arriabiata, it sings. The acidity holds up well against a tomato base, and the slight spiciness of the food brings out the earthy characteristics of Nebbiolo, and rounds out the tannic structure a bit, also turning it into a longer experience, more chalky than tannic. Finish goes on for a good half minute, and is perhaps the best aspect of the wine, as it more accurately captures the essence of Barolo - earthy, mushroom, anise, and red fruits with a 'dirty' terroir.

Fresh and alive. Needed 2 hours decanting. Forest floor/eucalyptus, rich fruit, present tannins.

Love that Barolo! Medium body, fruit with some raisen and beef reduction flavor. Chalky tannins.
