Heavy banana and red fruit on the nose, with a slightly earthy finish. On the palate, you get plenty more crisp red-fruit flavor, as well as heavy metallic and smoky notes on the finish. Intriguing Gamay, and while not necessarily my favorite, pretty solid chilled picnic wine.

Intense nose with pronounced, almost gaudy, floral notes, some anise, and a faint hint of something barnyardy. Crunchy red fruit on the palate with more anise inflection. While I’m certainly too lazy to look up the geological correlates, the earth/mineral components of Loire gamay do seem to be subtly different from those of the main Beaujolais terroirs, in this case yielding a distinct and very enjoyable wine.
Update: this was a little more harmonious on day 2. At the very least, I’d say that a long decant is in order if opening now.
