  • This is the first time that I have tasted this wine. I have the the 2018 vintage, I had to pick up the inaugural release of this wine, but they will rest in the cellar. As for the 2019, it's good but needs cellaring. A wine that's more elegant in style but there's unresolved substance to this vintage and it needs time to come around. Deep blue purple color, dark berry fruits, dark cherry and currants. A good addition, but this wine is a hold for now. 94 Points.

  • The Great Escape; 3/8/2022-3/9/2022 (Napa): Great Escape to Napa: 2 day getaway with my dad (3/8/22-3/9/22).

    2nd tasting on day 1

The tasting was held at Carter Cellars in Calistoga with Michael. This was the last vintage with Mike Smith as the winemaker. The 2021 vintage will be headed by the one and only Russell Bevan!

The tastings were all Corvin pours and included these 2019 bottlings:
    Hossfeld Coliseum (91-93 points)
    The Haze (90-92 points)
    Fortuna (94 points-great QPR)
    Beckstoffer Missouri Hopper (95+ points)
Beckstoffer LPV Los Compadres (97+ points) &
Beckstoffer To Kalon The Grand Daddy (95 points)

I have one word written on my tasting sheet to describe this wine-AWESOME!!!

The nose was of beautiful blue and black fruits with a clear presence of minerality. The nose was very unique and unmatched by any other wines in this tasting. The color was deep purple. The palate was fairly fruit forward of black fruits at this early stage but there was good minerality and brown spice undertones. The wine had a plush mouthfeel. There is good complexity and medium acidity. It is full bodied with a long finish.

This wine is drinking great now but will only improve with a few more years in the cellar.

My score is a 97+ and this wine stole the show in the above lineup of wines!

I would have purchased more than 2 bottles if I didn't get my arm twisted into buying a GTO that I didn't have the ability to taste but Michael gave it rave reviews,, as did several others on Cellar Tracker! Hope the gamble on passing on more of these bottles for the GTO pays off!
