Decanted one hour. This was a better bottle than the previous one. Perhaps a bit more age to it, or just bottle variation? Much more Rioja-esque with American oak (lots of it!) and sweet vanilla. Tannins still a bit rough but overall fairly well balanced with the acidity and body. Starting to come into its own. This was my last bottle but if I had another I’d wait 3-5 years before opening it and cross my fingers that the tannins are mellowed and silkier.

Ripe fresh dark red fruit with some "sweetness", moderate well-integrated oak. M+ tannin, just a little chalky. M+ acid. Complexity M/M+. Tertiary notes haven't really emerged yet. Enjoyable.

Inviting nose of cherry and plum, anise, pepper, and mocha. Fruit tastes of cherry, plum, spice, and green pepper. Medium to full bodied. Chewy tannins. 4,20,8,4,4;50=90

I picked up a couple bottles of these on sale from Total Wine because my inlaws are visiting for the weekend. After popping the cork, they decided they’d rather drink beer so I ended up splitting a bottle with my wife. Now, the morning after, I have a splitting headache. 86!
EDIT: After reading the above TN to my wife, she informed me that she only drank a single glass last night and that “splitting a bottle” is not an accurate representation of the evening’s wine distribution. This helps explain my headache and groggy disposition today. In light of this new information, I am modifying my score up one point because I must have enjoyed this wine more than I remember. 87!
Fresh red color, nose of wonderful red currents and cloves, tannins a little string, could benefit from decanting, long finish but again I think it would be more balanced over time.
