  • Tasted on my 60th birthday what astunning wine.medium to full bodied it was long on the palate, complex with dark fruits, cedar, mint, all the things you expect from a great vintage. This wine shows napa produces stunning wines.

  • Absolute pleasure of a wine, and one that was not expected. In terms of sheer pleasure, it would rate higher than this, but in reality it is a very straightforward wine. It surprised because it had great balance, and despite its age had spades full of fresh fruit that filled the palate. Blackberry dominant with a little choclate. On my limited tasing window, I have generally found that Napa winesfrom the 70's shine far above their bordeaux counterparts. The 78 lafite wasn't a shadow on this one and the only lafite from teh 70's that couls stand close to it would be he 75. So get out there and do as the Skyhooks say "I'm Livin in the 70's"... if you can get a bottle or two of this that has been cellared well. Grab it. It is the kind of wine that anyone will and can enjoy.

  • ERI Auction and Tasting (Chicago, IL): The Bordeaux hounds disdained the Diamond Creek offerings as a half bottle remained long after the Moutons were down to the dregs. I have had few aged California Cabs though a couple lurk in my cellar from decades ago. Very concentrated but, unlike the normal Napa thing, the fruit forward thing is absent, instead there are layers of other components, dried fruit and chocolate. I found it a bit illusive and difficult to characterize.
