I bought this as a cheap case filler from a Chicago wine company auction. I had no expectations. This was a winery we visited on our first Napa experience in 2012. So I bought it with some name recognition at least.
I opened it with an ah so, and the red fruit aroma immediately followed the cork. Cork was maybe 50% saturated, but came out intact. I poured a glass, and it was a beautiful dark burgundy color, with no bricking at all. Palate was all red fruit, lots of rasberries and cherry, and while it did not taste like a typical young zin with high alcohol, it did not taste old at all. I would have never guessed the age here, though I might have guessed the grape with the fruit profile. As it continued to open, aromas of black tea, and raspberry tea became prevalent.
What a fun experience, and it keeps a solid run of TCWC auction wines that come in excellent condition. If you have any of these, drink up! And no decant, air and time have not helped this bottle, while still good and exceeding expectations, it has declined since opening about 4 hours ago.

Nicely-crafted, mild and mellow with 5 years on the vintage. Classic zin flabors of blackberry and spice, some bramble in the background, along with some rhubarb. Soft tannins, still some structure left, but not too much longer before it peaks.
