A birthday treat on 12/7/10. Brought this bottle back from Carmelo's tiny winery where he hosted us during a trip to Mendoza. Aged in cement (you heard me right) in very old ground level cement vats, resulting in a malbec that is smoother, medium bodied wine more characteristic of a higher quality (e.g., Behrens & Hitchcock) merlot or meritage. Carmelo Piatti is an old-style winemaker of Italian origin whose family emigrated to Argentina many years ago and his wines are worthy of your consideration if you can find them.

Past it's prime but still very tasty. Not noticeably oxidized but doesn't have the guts I remember. Ruby red. Fruity, minerals, white pepper.

Bodega Carmelo Patti Visit (Lujan de Cuyo, Mendoza - Argentina): Earthy, Med-Med+ acidity, supple tannins with great balance and fruit. Nice finish.

vanilla and cherry nose; smooth cherry fruit, mod to high acidity keeps it bright, clean tannins; generically good
