Vosne + Flannery (Chicago): This had several hours of air and showed reasonably approachable though it is still quite clearly young, and quite clearly 2005. Vosne spice and black tea comes through but texturally this is firm and more clunky than you'd like in a Vosne 1er. Needs another decade -- upside from here.

Good, but rather austere. Lots of loamy, mushroomy, mineral character, but not much in the way of fruit, but plenty of structure and acidity, which went nicely with a very crispy duck confit. Drink now.

After having the '05 Les Beaux Monts last week...thought I'd check in on the Chaumes. More coffee and leather, less Vosne spice in this Chaumes. Dark and rich fruit, berry liqueur, deep and silky...but the spice needs coaxing. Very structured...more so than the BM...thins(or mutes) the fruit a little....deep flavors of earth, dried roses, crunchy minerals....exotic mahogany wood, and smoky spice(when it shows up). Man, this is pretty big for Burg....a sleeping giant? Beautiful silky and round body...but cut underneath. Will love to try this in 5 or so more years! Prefer the BM at this point, for the wonderful spice...but this might be more complex with age, as well as live longer. Both are outstanding!

Another Saturday at Knightsbridge - mostly blind (Northbrook, IL): Tasting. Lots of Vosne spice but a bit subdued. I think that's the phase many 2005 Burgs are in today. Plenty of structure to last, I just hope the fruit takes on some more weight and depth.

From 1.5L. Red fruits and spice. Soft front despite its youth; firm finish. Less full '05. Nice.
