  • I did not notice the syrupyness or hotness which some previous tasters had noted. Sure it had high toned red and dark fruit but still felt refreshing by the supporting structure of acids and fairly tamed tannins. There was surprisingly lot of sediment in the bottle. Quite different from Godefroy of same vintage that was slightly closed and had zero sediment.

For me this feels ready right now but considering the experience with Godefroy it's possible there is some bottle variation in play.

  • Yes, this is quite full bodied for a Beaujolais, but for me not at all syrupy. It has good acidity and is well balanced. The wood will integrate very well with some time I'm sure about that. Looking forward to my next bottle. The rating is conservative possible 93 rating.

  • If I was to open a bottle of Beaujolais to show someone the best qualities of Beaujolais, this would not be the one. Big, a bit hot, almost (but not quite) syrupy. Shame, because I normally really like Thivin’s wines. This one seems to be an outlier.

  • When did they move Thivin to Napa Valley? This is actually thick, like a wine picked uber-late to increase concentration. Black cherry Jolly Rancher flavors, and a strange combination of alcoholic heat, fresh struck match and citrus rind acidity combine on the finish. I don’t really like it, but I can’t stop sipping on it as I try to figure out what the hell is going on!

  • Ripe and juicy, though maintains a really nice balance. There's a good bit of structure underlying the fruit here, and this should age nicely. Think this will be really nice in 2-3 years, and should improve a decade beyond that.
