  • Clear brass liquid. Fresh, strolling aromas, comparable in structure to good Macon Villages or Pinot Blanc. There's a pleasant, relaxed appeal to the smell. It's not marked in an obvious way, but there are notes to be found of yellow pomaceous fruits, raw almonds, grilled lemon, and angelica. Eventually, a mannered whisper of leesy crème fraîche can be sensed in the background. Drinking it confirms a wine squarely within the bounds of by-the-glass restaurant convention. It won't draw attention to itself, but rewards it when offered. Stylish, sweet fruit and leafiness is attenuated before appetizing, mineral bitterness takes shape. Acidity is baseline, vinifera-genic, and offers tidy punctuation to lofted cream and fruit sensations. On the downbeat: kelp—umami traced to some extinct marine habitat. No sign of wear after two years in the bottle. No reason to age it; no reason to hurry drinking it up.

  • NOSE: starfruit, caraway, cream, ocean, green honey. Bright and mouthwatering. MOUTH: it begins massive, with green grapes bronzed in direct sunlight. As the event unfolds it gathers its markings, gripping the fat fruit in a seizure of soda, mica, celery leaf, lemon peel, and grass.
