The back label on mine (uploaded for your inspection), bought in Britain, says 14.5% alcohol, and the wine in my mouth is consistent with that. I don't find it very different from the 2019 which was also 14.5%. It's a bit brighter perhaps. But also a bit more closed up than this wine has ever been before, and actually seemed to close up more as I drank it over 4 days. Maybe we need to wait a few months still. Excellent for a blockbuster malbec, to drink with your spicy meal, and for the price. But still not back to the style and quality of 2017 and 2016.

Having not liked the 2019, not least for its excessive alcohol level, this is intriguing. Cent Visages is the name Jean-François gives to his cuvée of 100% Côt (Malbec) from a single vineyard in St. Julien de Chedon. These 50 year old vines are an old massale selection of Cot and ones which are the source for many of his new plantings. Soils and location:South / southeast facing slopes, on deep chalky soils with clay top soil. Area: 2,5 hectares of vines aged 50 years old. Yield: 35 hectolitres / hectare. Winemaking: Destemmed then hand sorted on a sorting table before crushing and put into a vat. Hand plunging and delestage, followed by a long maceration (between 5 and 6 weeks) with natural yeasts. Maturation in concrete buried tanks with micro-oxidation. Cot/Malbec: 100%. ABV: 13.5%. Colour: v deep cherry red, v thin rim, cherry tinge. Nose: v full, fresh, ripe, cherries, violets, spice. Taste: light/med body, rounded, soft tannins, v ripe fruit, violets, plums, cherries, v perfumed, long perfumed finish, soft tannins. Overall, a great discovery and grateful to La Cave St Jacques in Tournai for having persuaded me to have a crack at this having been so dismissive of the 2019.

Happier with this now. Filled out some of the previous hollowness. And got some nice developed flavours by the 3rd day.
