Po's 1990 Bordeaux dinner (La Trompette): A magnum served blind. Really in the zone (perhaps more than you'd hope for a 2008 magnum at this stage of its life). Pale straw appearance and fumey nose. A good core of freshness, with quinine and gooseberry compote as well as cream and Comte. A nice surprise to start.

Po’s 1990 Bordeaux (La Trompette, London): Blind. Mag. Light straw, really very pale. Quite a full, floral and quite rich nose, almost a sense of oak. Really quite full on the palate too. Nicely poised. Opening nicely but with time to go. ****

Po's 1990 Bordeaux Dinner (La Trompette, Chiswick): Quite mature with some oxidative notes overlying limey fruit. Very fine mousse, quite long and tangy on the finish.
