On initial opening there was a strong smell of burnt rubber… interesting but not very likable. After a bit of time then still interesting but more likable. Smoke, savory, sour, spice, ripe apple.

$50+ Italian Blind Tasting (Bin 75 Alpharetta, GA): Golden amber, this does not look like a wine I'm about to like; butter, caramel corn, tahini, exotic, sesame reduction, some notes reminiscent of Roulot; the palate shows a slight bruised apple character, clearly this sees some skin contact, a little tannic prickle; interesting to see a skin contact wine that is reductive, reminded me of Chardonnay but who?, called this as Emidio Pepe Trebbiano because I have little experience but this seemed unique and special.

Best Occhipinti wine that I have had to date. This bottle was in great condition and showed really well. Popped and poured, enjoying over ~2 hours with friends. The nose was Smokey, flinty. The fruit notes were dominated by lemon and peach, a strong vein of minerality. I think the palate is where the wine definitely shines. It’s concentrated, with great acidity and a round texture, finishing with some tannin and a palate staining finish.

Another slam dunk cuvée signed Arianna Occhipinti - here w the 2020 Vino di Contrada Santa Margherita (or, SM) made solely f Grillo in a modern, natural way, short maceration of 48h & in every aspect, fascination stuff. Dark amber, golden, translucent in the glass. The wine opens w bright scents of grilled lemon, smoke, nectarine & peach, herbs, hints of yeast. Pure, round, rich & fine viscosity, the palate brings fine tannic structure, salivating acidity, citrus-driven w charm, finishing saline & mineral-driven!

A delicious and singular wine, but not sure it justifies the price (at least in the US).
