Much more tannic and aggressive than the 2019. Like a Lapsang Souchong without milk - all tannin and woodsmoke. This is a less approachable vintage and the "hardest" 2017 I've had today.

This medium red/garnet wine was tasted in double-blind fashion over a two-hour period from a bottle that had been uncorked and poured. Improving aromatically and intensifying in flavor throughout the entire tasting interval, it offers an attractive olfactory array of red currant and plum fruit that is accented with notes of Asian spices, tobacco and bramble leaf. Full-bodied, high in acidity, softly oaked and with well-integrated alcohol (listed as 14.5%), it delivers flavors mirroring the nose. At this stage the tannins as still quite coarse, remaining pervasive on the mid-palate and adding a degree of astringency to the medium-length finish. Additional cellaring will likely be beneficial. If you choose to pop the cork now, give it plenty of air. Drink 2025-2035.
