Loads of barrel influence - vanilla and new charred oak are dominant in the nose. Dried fruit, mint, and sage come through more subtly. More balanced on the palate, with the tannins and acids balancing the high alcohol and fruit flavor. Good wine, best with food.

A nose of black cherry and some spices, dark garnet in color. A medium to full bodied red, with black cherry, raspberry, vanilla and spice on finish, a good value. www.winelx.com

This is really an amazing buy from Cameron Hughes. If you are on the fence dive in! An elegant wine (which seems contradictory for a wine under $20), but really luscious offering from the Columbia Vallely with dark berries, cherries, chocolate, chewy tannins that smooth with air. Drank over two days. Day 1: Needs airtime but still tasty with a pop and pour Day 2: Nice melding of flavors and smoothed out tannins. Fruit softens.

Seriously big mouthful of fruit, an astounding buy for $15, decant first for an hour. Will buy more. I've bought some clunkers from Cameron Hughes over the years not this one. Black cherries, violets, coffee, lots of tannins, good length. Comparing this wine with an old world Cab Franc -- worlds apart.

Definitely let this one breath for an hour or more. It will soften the substantial tannins. Lovely color and nose with an edge you don't get from cabs.
