  • Duroché Masterclass and Lunch (Restaurant Rijsel, Amsterdam, NL): Nerveux, spicy and earthy, slightly uneasy, not easy to assess. Not rated.

  • Opened at Noble Rot Mayfair. Served by Coravin, amidst a flight of other Lachauxs with Charles also around. #2507

Not as good as the others today. Slightly darker and more broody - less playful and I feel this was the least forwardly approachable of the CL wines I've enjoyed recently. With some air it opened a bit, but still remained tight. The palate was very clean and supple but I suspect this is a wine that just needs a little more time and age to open up fully. It is a 2021 after all...

Still, what a pleasure to try these wines with Charles around! And always a pleasure to share with the NR team.

  • Nose: dark fruits, metallic, clove, raspberry
Notes: I must say this is quite an intense wine in the sense that it gives you a little bit of everything. Yet the problem is also the fact that it only gives you a little bit of everything but not a lot of one thing. I would not try this again as I strongly feel this is an overrated wine in all aspects. The idea of having an ultra fine and complicated Cotes de Nuits Village seems to be quite counterintuitive itself whilst the wine and winemaking is arguably top notch yet I don't really feel this justifies the price of a very top Grand Cru. Instead of focusing on the quality of the wine itself I feel that most praises and credits were given to the smart marketing and market making behind this wine. Arguably this should be collared further, perhaps another 2-3 years. However im not too interested to try again.

  • Concentrated and juicy, structured and bright. Obviously super young, but great wine. Can't imagine paying current retail for this though, we drank it off a wine list in Burgundy for $200, at which price it's fantastic.

  • Not rating at this point because it's way too young. I got told Charles' negoce wines were more opened but this very concentrated, tight, and tannic for the appelation. Kinda like a 1er Cru in my opinion. The last Lachaux I had was a Chambolle 2017 and it was wonderful and way more open for business.
