  • 2006 Domaine Georges Mugneret-Gibourg Nuits St. Georges 1er Cru Les Chaignots

Nose: hints of banana, black pepper, black fruits, forest, rose petals, raspberry, spices
Notes: time after time I've wanted to give this Domaine one more shot to prove myself wrong and to seek to understand why this remains one of the most expensive and reputable wineries in Burgundy and time after time I've failed to understand. The winemaking is really too heavy and I am unable to appreciate this Domaine. Drank after opening for 3 hours, I am not sure if more time is required but certainly the nose is not very expressive and the palate is too heavy. I don't think this will improve more although I think this is still quite young and has plenty of life ahead of it. I find this to be a stylistic issue rather than a price or value issue for me personally.

  • 2006 Taittinger Champagne Comtes de Champagne Blanc de Blancs Brut

Nose: sugar cane, caramel, mango, cured meat, toasted sesame, brioche, apricot, peach, butter
Notes: believe to be disgorged in 2015-16. A nice and intense palate with bit of a savory nose. This Blanc de Blanc demonstrated excellent nose of bricohe and sugar cane coupled with a bit of peachy aroma. This wine still feels quite young right now and I would revisit this again in 5-6 years while I believe this can have the potential to last for another 15 years.

  • 2008 Domaine Anne Gros Echezeaux Les Loachausses

Nose: strawberry, raspberry, spices, orange peel, mung beans, hints of smoke
Notes: Opened for 2 hours before serving. Excellent nose of strawberries, raspberries and classic spices from Vosne/Flagey. Still quite young and energetic I suspect there's plenty of life ahead for this wine. Quite a typical showing from wines from this grand Cru and this is indeed quite classical, this bottle is gentle but not too feminine with a good structure. Probably still a bit young right now.
