This has a lovely silken texture and great finesse, but it's just a bit slight on flavor. This doesn't seem tired or oxidized, just perhaps smaller than it once was. This would get destroyed by faint praise in one of our bonanza tasting events, but I am enjoying the wine on its own terms.

  Well past its prime. I would drink these up if you have any left. The 2005 I had a few weeks ago was drinking great but the 2001 is on its last legs.

  Medium-light red. Earthy, gamy aroma; a roomful of wet furred dogs overpower whatever else is there aromatically. Other diners found it wonderful. Structured, with near razor blade- like acidity. A powerful mouthful but for me the drinkability is challenging. Needs something along the lines of elk chili, lamb-mushroom pasti, or a choucroute to stand up to it. Bottle #7 of twelve.
