2019 Visit to North Canterbury, NZ: Barrel tasting. Small pour. From a second fill barrel from 777 and 115 vines planted in 2006 on the 0.6 ha Block 10, Greystone's highest altitude pinot block. Partially through malo and therefore easier to judge. A richer, darker fruit profile on the bouquet. In the mouth, plenty of racy acidity (but this will reduce with more malo). A step up in elegance and also in power. Crunchy darker berry fruit. Chalky tannins. Persistent and long. Potentially, very good. Gavin said that they use Mercurey barrels as they match this fruit well.
