Dinner at Chengdu Impression (Chicago, IL): Disgorged July 2021, 3 g/L dosage. Very high acid, with a little bit of Fuji apple on the nose. Lean and lacking breadth on the palate for my taste. Feels like it's missing depth and weight here, really not my kind of Champagne.

Bubbling my way back from the jetlag (My place, Portland OR): The more robust side of the grape shows beautifully next to the Pinot Noir (Les Grandes Cotes). This also shows off the more citrus-forward quality of the LGC with tones of kumquat, red apples, quince, bosc pears, navel oranges, toast, biscuits, brioche, baking spices, warm dough, and a touch of mineral notes. There is excellent complexity and this does feel a little coiled up on the nose. The Medium bodied feel is balanced with a tart, high acidity that is backed up by a lengthy finish. Where the LGC feels fully open, this really could benefit from another 12-24 months as its holding back just a bit right now. There is still a really damned good Champagne here that really brings out the more playful side of Meunier.
