  • Blueberry bomb! Decanted with the Centellino. Some very fine sediment in the bulb. Cork was firmly secured and unpenetrated.

Nose bursts with blueberry, undertones of Spanish oak, with soft hints of cassis, saddle leather, and black licorice. Black plum and blueberry dominate the palate, fine hint of vanilla, and mulling spices. Finish is short on berry fruit, but long on dry cassis with medium bodied fruit and molasses. Dry through and through, tannins ebb and wane across mid-palate, balance is spot on start to finish. When I say this one did not evolve during a few hours of breathing, it is a good thing; this was consistently fruit forward and dry.

Strangely enough, the small addition of Cabernet (only 15%) give a significant boost in body, backbone, and tannin – really jacked up a berry filled Grenache profile. The Cab addition definitely is responsible for the soft nose undertones, spicy body, and dry finish. The fruit is just plain beautiful through and through, and the balance really would complement pork, game, and red meat dishes – we had this one with Carnitas.

At a shade under $20 a bottle, certainly well conditioned in the bottle too, this one is a steal for simple enjoyment. It is something different than the usual Grenache blends that are tempered with Syrah, Merlot, or Mourvèdre. Grab one of these and pop – ready to drink now! B/88 = 50/5/12/7/7/7

  • There is a very distinct aroma of band-aid on the nose which is very awkward. Pure cherry juice flavor comes through on the palate. Very good but one dimensional. ($16)

  • The nose has a spice I cannot pinpoint. Grapey with firm tannins. Enjoyable wine and interesting to decipher. Somewhat of a dry cocoa flavor which matches the smell of dark chocolate on the nose after the glass is emptied.

  • Pretty funky, but interesting. Would have mistaken for Mas Des Bressades, Mas Carlot or similar French cab/syrah blends.

  • same as 10/8/2008 note. this wine is fantastic, and is an even greater QPR at $15. Wish I would have bought more when I had the chance.
