92-93 pts

  • At Gage & Tollner for my birthday dinner. I wasn't wanting to drop $330 on a white for the table, but once the somm came back to the table to apologize for being out of the 2021 Stein Palmberg Kabinett trocken, I had a hard time finding a white I was excited enough to try that I hadn't already tasted so many times I feel like I know it like the back of my hand. Here's where we ended up--I've had a number of customers pinging me for Germain whites, and while we sell his reds, they never seemed to elicit the same excitement, so was curious to see how this would show. I'd never had a Germain white. A nice wine, but yet again, I'm reminded of just how much I despise tactile oak on a white Burgundy, even if it is a subtle 10% or so--felt like that was showing far more than the mineral backdrop I'd signed up for. Obviously a wine to age.
